AN OFFICE NOBODY WANTED TO BE IN
He was sent to run a company that had not grown in three years, in a building he could not bear to be inside. This is his account, in the order he told it.
I moved to a new office and found that I was extremely tired and would get exhausted after less than one hour, and just wanted to leave. In fact I could not stand being in the office for more than a few minutes. I also noticed that everyone left around 5.30pm, and people looked tired and not well.
During my first weeks a key staff member had a very serious motorcycle accident, and I saw many people bruised and limping from motorcycle accidents in the first few weeks I was there. So I started to ask around, and it turned out that some of the staff were frightened to be in the office at night — especially in the toilets — as they often heard voices and noises that were not their colleagues.
I then found out that over the past few years several people had died falling from the roof of the office building. The business I was asked to run had not grown in the previous two to three years.
So I asked for the office to be cleared. The whole building was done, focusing on the floors my company held.
After the cleanse, people didn't want to leave the office. They worked later, were noisier, happier, more animated — and the business was the only one in the region to grow that year. We grew considerably. I have also not heard of or seen anyone in the company suffering a motorcycle accident since.

Some of it arrives second-hand. This client had her whole residential block cleared, and later asked a neighbour which floor a man had fallen from some years before. The neighbour wanted to know why she was asking.
